Community and Business Development News

The city Development Office is soliciting proposals from community organizations or businesses interested in participating in a second phase of the Revitalizing Urban Commercial Areas program.

Participating businesses will receive matching assistance of up to $40,000 to make improvements to their facades and grounds. Up to 50 percent of the assistance may be provided as a low-interest loan, with the rest structured as a forgivable loan. Proposals are being accepted for businesses in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas as identified by the city Development Office. Businesses that received funding under phase one are not eligible.

Proposals should come from a neighborhood association, community development corporation, merchants’ association, or community development entity acting on behalf of the businesses. Alternately, businesses in a RUCA area may jointly submit a proposal. For more information, a submission timeline and a map of Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas, go to and search for “RUCA,” or call CityLink at 727-8000.
