The City Council will hold a public hearing Monday, July 16, on a proposed ordinance that would allow residents to petition the city to restrict parking in front yards. The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber, 101 N. Main St.
Under the proposed ordinance, vehicles parked in the front yard would have to be on a driveway or a permanent parking pad. No more than 30 percent of the yard could be taken up by the parking area.
The ordinance would be in effect only in areas where the residents have requested it and where City Council has approved the request. Residents who want the parking restrictions would have to circulate a petition describing the area in which the restrictions would be in effect. Seventy percent of the property owners or tenants in that area would have to sign the petition before the City Council would consider the request.
A draft of the proposed ordinance is posted on the city website ( For more information call CityLink 311.
