The Inspections Division of the Planning and Development Services Department is a City-County agency responsible for reviewing and inspecting building and zoning related activities throughout Forsyth County, with the exception of Kernersville town limits. Our staff reviews plans and issues permits for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building activities consistent with the codes adopted by the State of North Carolina. Additionally, our staff completes plan review, issues permits and enforces zoning regulations consistent with the adopted zoning codes (Unified Development Ordinances) of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, Clemmons, Lewisville and Walkertown.

The Inspections Division of the Planning and Development Services Department has activated a new online permitting system called BuildIT. BuildIT replaces InspectNet. Browse BuildIT information.

As of January 1, 2018, all commercial plan review submittals MUST be submitted electronically. Go to submission site for instructions. No new paper plans will be accepted. If you have any questions, please contact Glenn Johnson at 336-727-2328. Thank you.
