An update to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Parks and Open Space Plan is underway. Two public meetings will be held to allow citizens an opportunity to provide input on the proposed recommendations. Both meetings will be drop-in.
Monday, August 26
Bethabara Park Visitor Center
2147 Bethabara Road, Winston-Salem
5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, August 29
Salem Lake Marina Center
1001 Salem Lake Road, Winston-Salem
5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Four Key Points about the Update:
- No New Parks are recommended as part of the Update. The proposed parks shown on Map 4 were proposed either as part of the original Parks and Open Space Plan or through an adopted area plan.
- The Update recommends that the main focus for the next several years be maintaining and enhancing existing facilities.
- The Update includes sections on accessibility and deferred maintenance not included in the 2006 Plan.
- The recommendations listed in the Update shift from prescription recreational amenities (i.e. ball fields) toward more “at-will” recreational amenities (i.e. walking/hiking trails, playgrounds, dog parks, picnic shelters).
