Bulky Item Collection Returns
The city’s annual bulky item pick-up will begin Feb. 29. Through Sept. 2, crews will go through the city street by street, collecting bulky items that garbage crews cannot accept. Furniture, mattresses, appliances, grills, carpet, old toys, and lawn furniture can all be set out.
The city cannot collect televisions, computer equipment, building materials, hazardous waste, tires, cement, cars and car parts, stumps, tanks and oil drums, fire wood or yard waste. Do not mix bulky items with yard waste, recyclables or brush.
Bulky item collection is for single family residences, not businesses or apartments. The Sanitation Division will mail post cards in advance to let home owners know when bulky item collection will be held in their neighborhood. Crews will go through each neighborhood only once. To ensure collection, items must be at the curb by 6 a.m. the Monday of your collection week.

Keep the Stream Clean
It is enormously convenient to simply dump all recyclables into the blue rollout cart without having to separate paper, plastic, bottles and cans. But this does NOT mean that you can simply treat your blue rollout cart as another garbage can.
Unfortunately, we see all sorts on non-recyclable items in the blue carts, including hoses, clothes, wires, and much more -- one cart last year even had parts of a dead bear! When the recycling stream is contaminated, it costs all of us money, because the city has to pay to Waste Management (our recycling partner) to dispose of the non-recyclables.
So remember: put ONLY recyclables in the recycling cart. If you need a refresher course on what you can put in your cart, read our guidelines for recycling.
What to put in the recycling cart!
Winter Weather and Sanitation Collections
Thank you for your patience with us during the winter storm in January. As you know, the storm played havoc with our sanitation collections. There are several reasons for this, starting, of course with the road conditions. Even when the main streets are clear, icy side streets can make driving hazardous and footing treacherous for our crews.
We can’t control the weather, but when winter storms strike, we do our best to ensure that Sanitation collections resume as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
