Performance and Accountability - Sept. 7, 2018

As part of its reaccreditation process, the Winston-Salem Police Department is asking citizens to participate in a voluntary online survey about the department. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and will be posted on the Police Department’s home page,, and the city’s home page,

The survey solicits feedback on interactions with department personnel, to include overall agency performance, overall competence of the agency employees, perception of officers' attitudes and behaviors, community concerns over safety and security, and recommendations for improvements. The survey will be posted online Sept. 10 through Oct. 12. The survey results will be tabulated and analyzed by the city's Office of Performance and Accountability.

Police Chief Catrina Thompson said, "We are constantly looking for additional ways to connect with the citizens of Winston-Salem, and this survey gives us one more way to accomplish that. So I encourage all our city residents to take a few minutes and participate."

The Winston-Salem Police Department has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies since 1997. Each year, the department completes an annual review to maintain its compliance with the set of international law enforcement standards established by CALEA.

CALEA accreditation is a voluntary process, and the Police Department complies with 484 advanced standards every four years. The department has been recognized by CALEA as a meritorious agency and was last reaccredited in 2015.
